Zumba: Julianne Howard of Camden-Wyoming, Delaware

Share

“I love to dance, but I never once took a class before I became a certified Zumba instructor,” says Howard, 43. “Someone made a derogatory remark to me that big girls can’t teach. I was 71 pounds heavier then. I wanted to prove them wrong.” Prove it she did. For the past three years, she’s taught regular classes at Dover Air Force Base, Milford Bowling Lanes and other places, as well as under contract for area companies that offer wellness programs. “It’s great,” Howard says. “You enjoy other people. You laugh, you dance, you sweat, and before you know it, you’ve reached your goals.” She points out that there are Zumba programs for everyone from children through seniors and the physically challenged. “Just enjoy the journey,” she says, “whatever your journey may be.”
